Every once in a while we will get caught up in looking at some cool stuff. This week, I was scrolling through Society6 website in search of something inspirational for a project we are working on and was not disappointed. 10 pieces of art spoke to me for one reason or another. Below they are displayed in no particular order of importance OCEAN STARS Sometimes certain things appeal to us because of what's on our minds. We have been working on a project that has a color palette of teal, turquoise and warm walnut tones. It isn't surprising that this was the first image that jumped out. LOVE WISH LANTERNS You just can't look away from this picture. It has everything: fire, water, night, and a romanticism of your dreams reaching the sky. I could look at this and daydream all day.... That's why I would probably put it in the bedroom or a study. If it were in my office, I would get distracted easily. CONCEPT SUNSET - RAINY SUNSET More sky and water... The sensation of looking out of the rain-stricken window is unmistakable and makes you want to grab cup of something warm and sit by the window gazing at the dying day... Yep, definitely still daydreaming. RETRO RED OK, so I don't know exactly how this image ties into this week's round up. I think it may have popped up on the site right under the Sunset and it just really spoke to me. As designers, Katya and I are often faced with the challenge of marrying new things in the space with the existing - often sentimental - items. Over the years we have come to appreciate the beauty in imperfection and this old beat up red truck is absolutely gorgeous. Plus, I like its homage to impressionism with its blurry dreaminess (can I coin it as a signature phrase - "blurry dreaminess"?) Obviously, it would be very fitting in the boy's room, or a man cave, but I can also see it in the study or library, you know, old books, retro things. BE SCARED AND DO IT ANYWAY Taking risks is what we are all about, so I just had to include this into the round up. I think this qualifies as a life motto! Perfect for the dreamer, hang it next to your vision board. GET (SH)IT DONE In case the first inspiration quote wasn't motivational enough for you, this one gets straight to the point. Just get it done! I am getting one for our office, he he. BALLERINA #1 Speaking about getting it done. I have an immense admiration in my heart for the amazing human beings that call themselves ballerinas. The amount of sheer grueling work they put in "just" to be able to stand on pointe is mind boggling. Plus, what other human possesses equal amounts of power, strength, and beauty? I can see this image as a part of the gallery wall of black and white images. So sharp. THE OLD ASTRONOMER This image caught me by surprise with its name, after I was done admiring its haunting style. I just love looking at this vintage-style sepia-colored picture of a petite elegant lady and be blown away by the discovery that she is an old astronomer. I find it quietly empowering. WOMAN WITH FLOWERS 10 Love this for its romanticism and whimsy. It is so light and airy, perfect for the powder room or a fabulous walk-in closet UNDERWATER DREAM Oh... This image is just so hauntingly beautiful.... I am fascinated by these creatures. There is so much mystery to them, they're completely unlike any other creature on earth. Just look at these rich vibrant colors! I would put it in a living room, or a front foyer. Of course, if you have a phobia or a dislike for the underwater creatures or things with tentacles, this is probably not an image for you. But just look at all of that shimmery gold, don't you just want to touch it and find out that it is in fact not wet and slimy, but dry and soft and squishy. It's all in perception. Quick note: this isn't a paid endorsement for Society6, we just happened to be on their website looking for art for one of our projects and decided that we couldn't keep these finds to ourselves. We like to share fun things we find on our design journey.
